Liquidity of Energy Royalties

Selling Royalties is really no different than real estate. Although the Royalties market isn't nearly as large as the real estate market, and buyers are not usually local, transactions nevertheless can be done in reasonable time frame.

There are several options for selling your asset(s). Here are a few:

  Private Sale
Since owners of Energy Royalties have an undivided, fractional interest in the property or properties they are free to sell to whomever they choose. Other Royalty owners in fields where your assets reside are usually the best place to start since they know the area and have history in the asset. Having said that, selling to any private buyer is always an option.

  Divestment Firms
There are over 60 professional divestment firms that are Commercial Brokers of the energy business. These firms have extensive knowledge of the active buyers of quality Royalty properties. For a commission of 1-3% a divestment firm will prepare a detailed marketing package and actively work to generate multiple interested buyers of your property. This usually takes 45-60 days.

  Oil & Gas Clearinghouse
This is a Houston-based company that conducts a monthly hybrid auction of Energy Assets. Several hundred live and online bidders compete to acquire quality Royalty and Working Interest assets. In a typical month, $30-$50 million in properties are sold. This method usually takes about 60 days for an asset to sell.

  EnergyNet.com
EnergyNet.com is the "e-Bay" of the oil and gas industry, allowing oil and gas owners to leverage the power of the internet to reach a large number of buyers. This auction site is rapidly growing and selling millions of dollars in assets each month. Sellers have the option of setting a Reserve Price, which is a minimum bid that will be accepted.
